When I was an professional cyclist, at the beginning of one of our seasons, my coach had a meeting with our team and at this meeting he stressed that “there are no shortcuts to the places worth going.” I heard his words but at that time I didn’t really understand what they meant. When my coach laid out our training plan, I thought he was joking… the training plan seemed insane to me I did not think it was possible to train that hard. The next few days, weeks, months passed so slowly, I never thought I would make it to my first race. The training was so hard that I could see why people turned to doping to just make it through… However, I had an amazing support system of coaches, teammates, friends and family and this kept me going. This was definitely one of the hardest things I have faced as an athlete but it was also the season where I saw the most success, where I performed better than I ever had before, better than I ever imagined I could. Looking back, I am so thankful for this coach and the suffering he put me through as it taught me to do my best, to go FULL-OUT day after day and to be proud of my achievements.
This lesson can transfer to any area of our lives. For example, think about your current state of health and where you would like it to be. Your journey to optimal health may face many obstacles along the way: time, weather, commitment, finances, etc… and there may be times where this journey feels discouraging and impossible. However, stick with it and one day soon you will look back feeling better, looking better and realize that you are healthier than many of the people that may have questioned your dedication to greater health in the past.
Here are some questions for you to ponder: Are you training FULL-OUT? Are you doing your exercises five days a week? Are you doing Denneroll every day? How is your nutrition? Are you focussed on positive or negative things? Every single one of us is responsible for our choices and we all have the power to create amazing lives by making the right choices every single day. As my wise coach said, there are no shortcuts to the places worth going!
