I am so excited to be connecting with all of you this way and I can’t wait to reach out on a weekly basis to share news, information and ideas that are near and dear to my heart.
Spring is upon on us and for many this is a time for Spring Cleaning – we get rid of junk and shake out the dust and cobwebs. I have spent a lot of time thinking about how to ‘spring clean’ my mind and my life and not just my home and the story below shares the beginnings of this journey with you…
Where Has All the Passion Gone?
I have been challenged over the past couple of years with this question: Am I really excited about life? Do I have a zest for life? Do I ooze joy? I don’t know – and I’m not the one who can answer that for me. Only others can see if I am a passion-filled person, if I exude happiness and joy. So my question then really is – do others (my friends, wife, children patients…) see a passion in me? A zest for life, joy and excitement?
I don’t mean a hyped up frenzy or emotional high – I mean a genuine and contagious joy. I want them to see this radiating from me, so what do I do?
I set my purpose… my purpose is to choose to be joyful. This may seem like an odd thing to choose, but this is where the solution lies.
I remember hearing a speaker say: “In a marriage when the early days of infatuation fades, there comes a time where we must choose to remain in love.” He went on to explain: “The couple that can fully commit to this level of thinking and loving will make it.” He also went on to give some very practical examples of how the ‘fire’ can continuously be kindled in a relationship so the passion still remains. He was a strong advocate for an enjoyable/joy-filled marriage, not an endurance marriage.
I fully agree that life (and relationships) should be enjoyed and filled with joy, not endured. I am not talking about gritting our teeth and being joyful, I am talking about making a conscious decision to be joyful and passionate about life. So how do we do this?
1 – Get on purpose and get things right. We need to stop doing the things that are hurting us: smoking, poor eating habits, not making exercise a priority, missing adjustments… these choices can slowly kill us – we know this and yet we still keep doing it!
2 – Separate ourself from negativity. These are the negative people in our world. When we try to be more, do more, improve ourselves and our life – these are the people that try to put us back in our box, tell us you you can’t… you shouldn’t… you’ll never do it… that’s crazy… Some of these people will even criticize our healthy choices like eating right, exercising and getting regular adjustments. Avoid these people, they have no right to try and steal our joy and passion and they do not deserve the awesome we bring!
These are the two steps to begin the transformation from a life of existence to a life of excellence. This is a huge topic that I will continue to explore in future weekly newsletters… however the first step is to make the decision and CHOOSE JOY!
