RE:FORM News #13— School’s out for the summer! Or is it?

In last week’s newsletter I spoke about stewardship and the awesome personal responsibility we all have to take care of our own health.

This week I want to talk about the responsibility we have for the next generation – all our children. We owe it to them to give them all the mentorship and tools necessary to lead long, healthy, and fulfilling lives.

At a young age children may not understand the importance of healthy choices, getting them on the right path NOW will ensure maximum health potential in their lives and it will reduce the need for drugs or surgery down the road. So how do we teach our children healthy habits and ways of living very early in their lives?

When you are 10, or 8, or 1 (the age of my three sons), you are not thinking about your 70 year old self, but research shows that the earlier you teach your body to exercise and fuel it with proper nutrition, the earlier this will become your body’s norm. On the flip side, the longer you abuse the body with inactivity, bad substances like cigarettes, unhealthy foods, stress, etc, the longer it will take and the harder it will be to break these bad habits – they will become your body’s normal state.

We all start this world as a blank slate with nothing but pure potential, and we all need guidance and positive examples as we grow, develop and learn. This means that we have this awesome opportunity and responsibility to lead by example and teach our children how amazing it is to live healthy lives! Every decision we make leads us closer or further away from our health goals. This is the same for our children… chips or veggies, video games or a hike, water instead of pop…every single choice matters!

Teaching our children is especially important during the summer holidays as they have so much more free time on their hands. We also have so much more time with our children so it is the perfect opportunity to start teaching and training them towards greater health – think of it as summer school for healthy living!

A great starting point is for me to meet your children, have a discussion about health and give them a scan to determine their health baseline. Share a healthy chiropractic lifestyle with your children by calling Emily or Nancy at (613)321-3533 and booking them in for a health checkup; this is only $25 all summer for children up to university age.

Speaking of children.…next week’s newsletter is all about a favorite holiday for all the little and big children out there – Christmas! You will have to wait until next week to find out more!

Yours in health,

Dr. Martin Zollinger
